"I was hungry and you fed Me"

In the January 2016 newsletter we shared the plans and desire to begin a lunch or breakfast feeding program for the students at Mango Tree School in Uvira, Congo, DRC. Since then, preparations have included renovations to the existing kitchen and the purchase of commercial size cookware and 200 plates, cups and spoons. Pastor Jeremiah and the leadership at Congo for Christ made the decision to expand the feeding program to the community children of the area and not limit it to Mango Tree School students. The Congo For Christ Community Feeding Program is now up and running.

In addition to feeding hungry children, a worship service is offered for the children to hear and learn about the love of Jesus.

In addition to feeding hungry children, a worship service is offered for the children to hear and learn about the love of Jesus. The first lunch was held on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Pastor Jeremiah spread the word that the neighborhood children were invited to a church service at CCC. Since they did not even tell them lunch would be provided, they were not expecting a large turnout. They were prepared to feed 200 children and were surprised when 260 children showed up for church. They were creative in feeding all the children. In Pastor Jeremiah’s words:

The children were many and therefore due to the number we were forced to place them under the mango tree because they were not able to fit inside the classrooms. We were able to lay a tent (on the ground) and at that point they received the word of God and had their lunch. The challenges we got were that many more children showed up than we expected. The food became less, plates, cups and spoons also were little. It forced us to give them little food each, and some to wait for others to finish so that they could be served. Despite that, the children were so happy with the little they got.

334 children attended the second service and enjoyed lunch.

The second lunch was served on March 23 with an emphasis on the Easter message of a risen Savior. Three hundred thirty four children attended the service and enjoyed lunch which was served by the CCC orphans.

Please pray for these children as well as their families that they will continue to receive both spiritual and physical nourishment.

This is such an exciting program for us to offer these precious undernourished children. What a joy for us to have a part in feeding hungry stomachs and feeding hungry souls. Please pray for these children as well as their families that they will continue to receive both spiritual and physical nourishment. Your generous donations will help us continue this important outreach ministry.

Remember, only 50 cents will provide a meal for a hungry child. A gift of $100 will sponsor one lunch for 200 children.

"For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat: I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink...And the King will answer them, I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me."
