Divine Connection at 30,000 Feet

Earlier this week on a flight home from Atlanta, we were once again reminded how God orchestrates the affairs of His people and brings about divine connections that accomplish His good in people around the world. We had attended a church conference in Florida where a friend had invited me (Renee) to attend a mission breakfast. There were 600 people in attendance and it was open seating. We just “happened” to sit at a table hosted by a lovely couple from Swaziland. Of course the conversation included discussion of orphans and children in Africa and how to help them. This couple mentioned that the children in their orphanages had recently received sturdy new shoes that are designed to “grow” with the child and last for four years.

I knew we had to get these shoes for the orphans. I just didn't know how to pay for them, but God did!

After the breakfast, I quickly searched and found the source for “shoes that grow.” We learned it would cost $1,000 to provide these shoes for the orphans at Congo for Christ. The company packs them so they are ready to check as baggage when you travel by air. We are heading to Congo in October and immediately I knew we had to get these shoes for the orphans. I just didn’t know how to pay for them, but God did!

As we sat at the gate in Atlanta with an empty seat beside us, the plane was about full and ready to depart. Then a beautiful young woman asked if she could join us. With a sparkle in her eye and smile on her face I knew this would be an enjoyable trip. We starting chatting and immediately discovered our connection in Christ. Those of you who know me know it didn’t take long for the conversation to turn to Global Outreach ministries and particularly our beautiful children at Congo for Christ.

At first I thought she meant she would buy a few of the shoes, but no, she donated the money to buy them all.

Somewhere over Texas, I mentioned the shoes we had just learned about. She immediately spoke up and said she would buy the shoes for the children! At first I thought she meant she would buy a few of the shoes, but no, she donated the money to buy them all...and pay the extra cost to take them along in October.

This event reminded us of the many wonderful people God has graciously brought into our lives through divine connections.

As you can imagine, Bill and I with our new friend Charla, had a time of rejoicing on that plane. This event reminded us of the many wonderful people God has graciously brought into our lives through divine connections.
